Remembering Sheldon Brown

 Has it already been a year?

I looked at the calendar just now, and yes, it's been a year today since Sheldon passed. I never met Sheldon, but like many cyclists, much-- no, most-- of what I know about the mechanical side of things I learned from Sheldon Brown's website. I even had the great thrill and pleasure of being corrected by Sheldon himself on a technical point regarding steel tubing.

His loss was a stunning blow to the cycling community-- we had all lost a dear friend we had never met. Thankfully, his friends at Harris Cyclery have kept his website going; the depth and breadth of knowledge which Sheldon kindly and generously shared through his website is an irreplaceable resource. There will never be another like him

Last year, memorial rides in Sheldon's honor were held on-- what else?-- April Fool's Day. Will cyclists continue to come together to ride in Sheldon's honor every year? Whether on April Fool's Day, Bastille Day (which just so happens to be Sheldon "Francophile" Brown's birthday), or another day appropriate to his memory, I certainly hope so.
